Jay is the founder of the predecessor company to Allied-Barton Security and the former president of the Philadelphia Flyers.
Jay started his first company at age 22 when he formed SpectaGuard, Inc. with the intention of providing the most closely supervised, highly trained and motivated security guard personnel, delivering a consistently high quality service at premium pricing, to premier businesses and institutions looking for a better solution. SpectaGuard developed into the dominant security company in the Philadelphia region and the 16th largest in the United States. Jay sold a majority interest to Gryphon Investors in 1998 and remained on the company’s Board until 2002.

During his tenure as the team’s President, the Flyers won three division titles, two conference titles and competed in two Stanley Cup Finals. Jay served as Governor to the National Hockey League and was a member of the NHL President’s Advisory Committee.
In 1987, Jay was named President of Spectacor, Inc., a Philadelphia based sports, entertainment, retail, and media company. He held the top post at Spectacor from 1987 through 1994, while serving concurrently as President of the Philadelphia Flyers. At Spectacor, he helped pioneer the concept of an all-talk sports radio station for the Philadelphia market by purchasing WIP-AM, a music station, and transforming it into the most successful sports talk station in the country. He also headed the project team in the development and planning for the Wells Fargo Center, a $200 million state of the art arena in Philadelphia that is home to the Philadelphia Flyers and 76ers.
From 1988 to 1992, Jay served on the board of Spectacor Management Group (SMG), the world’s leading private management company for public assembly facilities, including stadiums, arenas, theaters and convention centers.
